1930s Royal Cauldon Art Deco Green Oval Flower Arranger Posy Ring Vase No.3

A stylish 1930s Royal Cauldon Art Deco flower arranger / posy ring, made in England and finished in an attractive mottled green glaze.

The unusual low oval form is designed as a flower-arranging vessel, with a broad hollow outer trough surrounding a large central opening. Flowers could be arranged through and around the central ring while water was retained within the surrounding channel.

The piece is only approximately 4 cm high, confirming that it was intended as a low table or mantel flower arranger rather than a conventional vase.

Finished in a soft celadon / apple-green mottled glaze, with pale crystalline-style speckling throughout, giving the surface considerable decorative interest.

The underside carries a printed crown mark reading:

and is additionally impressed with the number 3, likely indicating the mould or size.

Royal Cauldon was the trade style adopted by Cauldon Potteries from around 1930, and this piece is typical of the decorative Art Deco ceramic forms produced in England during the inter-war period.

Condition

Good vintage condition overall with expected age-related crazing, light surface wear and some interior staining from previous use.

There is a small area of glaze loss / flaking to the underside, visible in the photographs, together with minor marks and wear around the foot rim.
