Treasure Trove Worcester Ltd has dated this Meissen Porcelain Cupid Figurine to the 1900s.
The figure depicts a winged Cupid with a sorrowful expression, bound to a tree trunk by trailing garlands of finely modelled pink roses. An empty red and gilt quiver rests at his feet. Raised upon a naturalistically modelled rocaille base with gilt highlights.
Finely modelled and hand painted in polychrome enamels, with extensive applied floral decoration.
Underglaze blue Meissen crossed-swords mark to the underside, together with incised model number R123 and impressed number.
Height: 18 cm
In good antique condition. There is a very small chip to a toe on the right foot, an old well-executed repair to the hand, and a very minor nibble to one of the applied flowers. Otherwise very well preserved, particularly considering the extensive and delicate applied floral decoration.
