Produced during the reign of King William IV (18301837), these pieces bridge late Regency and early Victorian furniture design. They typically feature bold proportions, fine flame mahogany veneers, central column pedestals, and carved quadripartite plinth bases with lion paw or scroll feet.

Primary construction involved solid mahogany or rich mahogany veneers laid over oak or pine carcasses. The folding interior top was traditionally lined with woven wool baize fabric, and steel or brass hinges were fitted to support the swivel mechanism.

Authentic period examples display hand-cut dovetail joints, period-correct brass hardware, hand-carved decorative elements, and natural oxidisation or patina on unpolished underside surfaces. A swivel top mechanism opens to reveal a recessed storage compartment within the frieze.

Positioned against a wall when closed, a card table functions effectively as a hallway console table or living room lamp stand. Unfolded, it transitions into an occasional games table or compact dining space for smaller rooms.
