18th century
Description

Rare George III Oak Cricket Table

A charming and increasingly difficult to find George III oak cricket table, of wonderfully compact proportions and possessing exceptional colour and character.

The table features a particularly desirable single-piece oak top, displaying a fantastic depth of colour and a beautifully developed natural patina acquired through generations of use.

A lovely, genuine example with a wonderfully mellow surface, excellent proportions and considerable period charm.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A cricket table is a traditional three-legged occasional table featuring a round top, originally designed to stand stably on uneven stone or earth floors in rural British homes.

Cricket tables were predominantly crafted from native British hardwoods such as oak, elm, pine, and fruitwood, often constructed using mortise and tenon joinery with wooden pegs.

Authentic 18th-century examples typically display hand-planed surfaces, irregular turned legs, wood peg construction, natural shrinkage of the circular top planks, and deep patination in hard-to-reach areas.

Place a cricket table alongside an armchair as a compact drink stand, beside a sofa, or within an unused alcove to introduce historic texture and organic timber tones to contemporary schemes.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a soft, lint-free cloth and applying a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, while avoiding direct heat sources and liquid contact.
