A bough pot is a specialized ceramic vessel designed during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries to hold flowering branches or floral arrangements indoors during non-blooming seasons. Manufactured primarily in Holland and Britain, these vessels feature tin-glazed surfaces and hand-painted decorations.

These pieces were formed from low-fired earthenware clay, dipped in an opaque white tin glaze, and painted by hand with cobalt oxide pigments prior to a single or double firing process.

Authentic period Delftware exhibits a soft, slightly pinkish or buff-coloured earthenware body where glaze chips occur, visible hand-painted variations in the cobalt decoration, and slight surface irregularities characteristic of early kiln firing.
