A very rare early 19th Century giltwood and brass harp by Sebastian Erard, London. This stunning piece is of exceptional quality, finely hand carved and intricately decorated with Grecian revival motifs throughout. The elegant fluted pillar is surmounted with an exquisite caryatid capital and profusely adorned with beautifully carved motifs comprising of winged putti, winged sphinx, masques, lyres, trumpets, foliate, wreaths, palmette and flowerhead detailing, terminating on paw foot, inscribed 'Sebastian Erard, 18 Great Marlborough Street, London'.

Pioneered by Sebastian Erard in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, these instruments introduced the double-action mechanism, allowing harps to be played in all major and minor keys. This innovation transformed the harp from a limited chamber instrument into a versatile orchestral mainstay during the Regency and Victorian eras.
