Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A 17th-century vellum manuscript is an official document handwritten on prepared animal skin during the Stuart period in Britain. These documents were routinely used for land transfers, legal agreements, and official charters due to the durable nature of calfskin or sheepskin.

Vellum was manufactured by cleaning, bleaching, stretching, and scraping animal hides to produce a smooth, resilient writing surface. Scribes used quill pens dipped in iron gall ink, which oxidised over time to a distinct dark brown shade.

Authentic period manuscripts display natural skin irregularities, follicle patterns, and scalloped top edges known as indentures. The ink typically shows uneven colour degradation, and the handwriting reflects contemporary scripts such as secretary hand or court hand.

Framed manuscripts provide textural contrast when hung in a study, home office, or hallway. They work particularly well styled alongside dark timber furniture, antique oil paintings, or integrated into a modern gallery wall.

Vellum responds to environmental moisture and should be displayed in stable ambient temperatures away from direct sunlight. Framing requires acid-free archival mounts and UV-filtering protective glass to prevent warping, fading, and deterioration.
