Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating as utilitarian furniture for agricultural households, farmhouse tables were constructed for daily family meals and food preparation. They typically feature solid oak timber, broad rectangular plank tops, sturdy turned or square legs, and low stretcher rails for structural support.

Traditional refectory and farmhouse tables are constructed from solid oak timber joined with mortise and tenon joints secured by wooden pegs. Tops consist of thick joined planks supported by deep aprons and lower H-stretchers designed to handle substantial weight.

Authentic pieces show historic wear on the lower stretchers where feet rested, hand-planed textures on the underside of top planks, and traditional peg joinery. Natural timber shrinkage over time typically causes slight irregularities along plank seams and grain lines.

Contrast the heavy timber construction with contemporary upholstered chairs or modern mid-century seating. Keep table dressings simple using natural linen runners, neutral stoneware ceramics, and fresh greenery to complement the exposed wood grain.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish periodically to feed the timber grain. Protect the tabletop from moisture rings and direct heat by using coasters, trivets, and placemats.
