A large Arita porcelain carp dish, Hichozan Shinpo, Japan, Meiji Period. The amusing dish modelled as a large koi carp, and naturistically painted with scales, under a slightly lustrous glaze, to give a realistic look, and heightened in gilt.
 
The fins, and gills lightly moulded.
 
Hichozan Shinpo six character mark in iron red to the reverse.
 
The trade and export mark for Tashiro Monzaemon, a trader in Japanese ceramics, who held a licence between 1856 and around 1890.
 
Length – 40.6 cm, 16”.
 
Depth – 26.5 cm, 10 1/2”.
 
Condition – Some light scratching to the lustrous glaze. No restoration.
