Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 19th century, French cabinetmakers frequently revived 18th-century Louis XV styles, creating fold-over card tables designed for social card games such as whist or piquet. These tables were designed as decorative wall consoles when folded and functional gaming surfaces when opened.

High-grade pieces utilised exotic veneers such as kingwood, rosewood, and tulipwood arranged in quartered or parquetry patterns. Structural frames were reinforced with oak or pine, complemented by gilded bronze (ormolu) or brass mounts and felt or baize playing surfaces.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut joinery, thick timber veneers, heavy cast-bronze mounts fixed with hand-cut screws, and natural wear around the leg joints and pivot mechanisms. The timber cut inside drawer linings or underside framing typically shows uneven, historical saw marks.

Position the table against a wall or in a narrow hallway as a console when closed, topped with a contemporary lamp or ceramic vessel. The warmth of the kingwood veneer and brass mounts creates an effective contrast against minimalist neutral backdrops.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice yearly to preserve the timber finish. Avoid harsh chemical polishes on metal mounts, as these can strip original patination or seep into the surrounding wood veneer.
