Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Leather-wrapped frames became popular during the Victorian and Edwardian eras, primarily produced as desk accessories for private libraries and studies. They were designed to provide a soft, tactile contrast to polished timber furniture while safely encasing portrait photography and miniature paintings.

These frames were typically constructed with a solid timber or heavy cardboard core over which thin, vegetable-tanned hide was stretched and hand-stitched or glued. The leather was often molded over rounded cushion profiles and finished with mitred corner joints.

Authentic pieces display natural age-related wear, uneven patination, and hand-fitted construction details along the back joinery. The leather should exhibit genuine grain texture and subtle cracking or darkening consistent with historical handling, rather than uniform synthetic textures.

Place a pair on a contemporary sideboard, executive desk, or bookshelf to introduce warmth and tactile character. They pair exceptionally well with monochrome photography, botanical prints, or minimalist line drawings to bridge classic and modern aesthetics.

Dust gently using a dry microfibre cloth, keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources that cause drying or cracking. Apply a small amount of neutral leather balm occasionally using a soft cloth to preserve flexibility and prevent the hide from desiccation.
