Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An 18th-century chimney crane, or adjustable trammel hook, is a hand-forged iron mechanism installed within a hearth to suspend cooking vessels over an open flame. The adjustable sawtooth design enabled the user to alter the distance between the pot and the fire to regulate heat levels.

These items were forged from wrought iron by local blacksmiths using traditional hand-hammering techniques. Components were assembled using rivets and shaped joints, frequently featuring decorative scrolled terminals or wheel motifs.

Authentic period pieces display irregular hand-hammered marks, hand-cut sawtooth notches, and natural surface patination or mild oxidisation. Modern reproductions often exhibit uniform machine cuts, modern weld seams, or synthetic painted finishes.

An antique crane can be mounted inside a restored inglenook fireplace or displayed on an exposed brick wall as architectural metalwork. It can also function as a wall rack for suspending kitchen copperware, herbs, or iron utensils.

Keep the iron in a dry indoor environment to prevent active corrosion. Regular dusting followed by a light application of microcrystalline wax or beeswax helps maintain the dark patination and protects against rust.
