Rare 18th Century French Shagreen Necessaire Etui – Almost Complete Fitted Travel Case c.1770

A rare and highly collectible late 18th-century French shagreen necessaire etui, quite well preserved and remarkably complete for its age. Crafted from shagreen leather, this elegant antique travel companion retains its original luxurious character and fine quality.

The fitted interior contains the original blown-crystal perfume flasks with sterling-silver caps, one stopper broken in the neck, a stylus, folding fan-form note panels, a mirror, and various original fittings. Replaced tiny funnel, which is exceptionally minor considering the age and rarity of the piece.

The shagreen exterior remains in fair condition, with attractive colour and texture, and the original velvet interior.

A fascinating and sophisticated example of Georgian personal luxury accessories, increasingly difficult to find in such complete condition.
