Shackladys Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
The substantial central easel frame is fully adjustable in both height and angle, operated by the original geared winding mechanism with cast brass crank handle stamped “Improved Studio Easel – Winsor & Newton London”.
The broad adjustable ledge provides excellent support for large canvases, with the rear supported by elegant blackened iron strengthening braces.

Standing on a heavy trestle base with original lignum vitae castors, the easel was intended to be easily manoeuvred around the artist’s studio despite its impressive scale and weight. Brass carrying handles are mounted to each side, alongside original iron and brass fittings throughout, all complementing the warm patinated oak surface developed through decades of practical use.
