Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Pinecone finials have been utilised since antiquity as symbols of hospitality, renewal, and longevity. During the Victorian period, they were frequently placed atop staircase newel posts and gateway piers to welcome guests into the home.

These architectural elements were produced by pouring molten iron into sand moulds. Once cooled, the castings were hand-finished, fitted with threaded iron bolts for secure installation, and coated with dark paint or metallic bronze patination.

Original period examples exhibit substantial weight, hand-cut iron mounting threads, minor mould seam variations, and natural age-related patination or localized oxidisation in unpainted recesses.

Aside from restoring period banisters, individual finials serve as sculptural accents when displayed on bookshelves, mantelpieces, or mounted on stone plinths as decorative desk objects.

Dust regularly with a soft bristle brush and avoid water-based cleaners which induce rust. A thin layer of clear microcrystalline wax applied annually will protect the metal surface and maintain the patination.
