This architectural salvage piece is a late 18th century cast iron staircase finial executed in a Victorian style, finished in dark bronze. The top section is modelled as a textured pinecone with overlapping scales, set above an acanthus leaf cup resting on a turned circular base with classical mouldings and a number mark stamped near the bottom rim. A threaded steel mounting rod projects downward from the centre for installation, showing signs of oxidation and age wear. Measuring 20 cm high by 10 cm wide, the hardware is well-suited for historic renovation projects or period interior schemes as a decorative architectural element.

FAQs

Pinecone finials have been utilised since antiquity as symbols of hospitality, renewal, and longevity. During the Victorian period, they were frequently placed atop staircase newel posts and gateway piers to welcome guests into the home.
