Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A travelling tea set is a self-contained portable kit housed in a fitted wicker hamper or leather case, designed to allow travellers to brew tea on excursions. Popularised during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras alongside the growth of railway travel and early motoring, these sets contained boiling apparatus, tea caddies, ceramic cups, and storage containers.

Edwardian hampers were predominantly constructed from woven willow wicker or cane, lined with leather or washable fabric. Internal fittings featured tinplate, nickel-plated brass, or silver-plated kettles and burners, accompanied by lead crystal or glass bottles and fine bone china or earthenware teacups.

Authentic period sets typically feature custom-shaped wire racks or padded dividers tailored to hold specific components tightly in place. Look for period-correct features such as spirit burners designed for methylated spirits, screw-cap glass flasks, and maker stamps or patent marks on the metalwork or underside of the case.

An antique picnic set can be displayed open on a sideboard, coffee table, or console table to highlight the internal metalwork and porcelain components. Alternatively, keeping the wicker hamper closed creates a textured accent piece on open shelving or within a bookcase alcove.

Wicker casing should be brushed with a soft dry bristle brush to remove dust and kept away from direct heat or moisture to prevent brittle splitting. Metal elements should be wiped gently with a microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh liquid polishes on aged patinas, while ceramics should be hand-cleaned with lukewarm water.
