Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Edwardian era, riding crops were essential accessories for equestrian activities, personal transport, and hunting. Higher-status pieces were frequently crafted by specialist makers in London and featured gold or silver mounts engraved with owner initials, crests, or presentation dates.

Traditional construction typically involved a core of whalebone or cane wrapped in tightly hand-braided leather or gut. Handles often incorporated turned horn, bone, or silver, while decorative mounts were executed in gold, sterling silver, or nickel.

Authentic period crops usually carry hallmarked metal collars identifying the assay office, date letter, and makers mark. Renowned makers such as Swaine & Adeney or Brigg stamped their names directly onto the metal collar or handle.

Antique sporting items can be framed inside a custom shadow box or displayed horizontally across a bookshelf or desk top. They are frequently incorporated into gallery wall displays alongside vintage equestrian prints and framed maps.

Leather elements should be kept in a climate-controlled environment away from direct heat sources to prevent cracking. Applying a small amount of specialist leather conditioner helps maintain flexibility, while gold mounts require only gentle buffing with a soft microfibre cloth.
