Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cantonese export porcelain refers to ceramics manufactured in Jingdezhen and decorated in Guangzhou (Canton) specifically for Western markets during the 18th to 20th centuries. These pieces typically feature vibrant polychrome enamels displaying alternating panels of figures, flora, and fauna.

This style utilises hard-paste porcelain painted with overglaze enamels, predominantly featuring opaque pink and rose hues derived from gold chloride. Artisans applied these detailed enamels by hand over clear-glazed porcelain before firing the piece a second time at a lower temperature.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-painted brushwork with slight irregularities, dense composition, and iron-red or gilt accents. Older examples usually demonstrate a slightly uneven glaze texture, subtle firing flaws, and wear consistent with age along the foot rim.

Position the bowl as a central focal point on a mahogany sideboard, dining table, or entryway console table. Pairing the intricate polychrome pattern with neutral surfaces or minimalist background decor highlights the detailed hand-painted artwork.

Wash gently using lukewarm water and mild dish soap, avoiding harsh chemicals, abrasive sponges, or modern dishwashers. Handle the item with clean hands or cotton gloves, holding it by the base rather than the rim to prevent accidental damage.
