Victorian fold-over games tables gained popularity during the 19th century as multi-functional furniture designed for drawing rooms and parlours to accommodate card games and social activities.

These tables were typically constructed from fine hardwoods like satinwood, mahogany, or walnut, often featuring intricate marquetry, veneering, and hinged tops supported by pivot mechanisms or swing legs.

Authentic pieces can be identified by traditional joinery methods, timber shrinkage, hand-cut veneer work, period-appropriate brass hardware, and natural patination accumulated over decades.

A Victorian games table works well as a versatile console or occasional surface in a living room, pairing traditional woodwork with contemporary seating to create an eclectic mix of eras.

Preserve antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent splitting, and maintain the finish by occasionally applying specialist beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
