FAQs

William IV furniture, dating from roughly 1830 to 1837, acts as a transitional period between Regency and Early Victorian design, typically characterised by heavy proportions, robust scrollwork, and classical architectural influences.

Cabinet makers predominantly used dense tropical hardwoods such as Brazilian rosewood and mahogany, often featuring finely figured veneer panels applied to sturdy pine or oak carcases.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, old secondary timbers on inner frameworks, traditional shellac French polish finishes, and age-appropriate shrinkage cracks in the wood grain and veneers.

This versatile piece functions effectively as a slim console against a hallway or living room wall when closed, or opened up to serve as a compact desk or display surface.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, avoiding silicone-based polishes, and periodically nourishing the surface with high-quality beeswax applied with a soft cloth.
