This Edwardian centre table brings classic English country house character to a traditional reception room or a spacious drawing room today. The piece takes the form of an oval pedestal table dating from the 1900 period, executed in warm brown walnut with boxwood and satinwood. The tilting top displays an intricate marquetry inlay featuring central floral motifs, surrounded by a crossbanded border with corner details. Supported on a carved four-legged pedestal base, the table includes decorative leaf carvings on the cabriole legs and is finished with functional castor feet. Surface wear includes visible wood grain variations and natural grain markings across the timber top. The structure measures 74 cm high, 114 cm wide, and 86 cm deep, providing a practical surface for display or central placement within a room.

Edwardian centre tables, produced between 1901 and 1910, are recognised for lighter proportions than earlier Victorian designs, often incorporating classical marquetry, delicate stringing, and refined walnut or mahogany veneers.

These tables were typically constructed from solid walnut or mahogany bases, topped with figured wood veneers and detailed marquetry inlays crafted from boxwood, satinwood, or ebony.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut wood veneers, period-correct joinery beneath the tabletop, brass or wooden castors on pedestal legs, and subtle age-related patination on the timber surface.

An antique oval centre table serves as a strong architectural anchor when placed in a spacious entrance hall, large bay window, or living area surrounded by contemporary seating.

Keep timber surfaces away from direct sunlight and heat sources to avoid veneer lifting, and apply a natural beeswax polish twice yearly to preserve the wood finish.
