A cricket table is a traditional British three-legged table dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, originally designed for domestic use in cottages and taverns where uneven flagstone floors made three legs more stable than four.

These tables are typically constructed from native British timbers such as elm, oak, and pine, featuring pegged joints, pegged plank tops, and splayed legs tenoned directly into the underside of the top.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate tool marks, hand-cut joinery, timber shrinkage with natural warping, and genuine patina developed through centuries of use rather than artificial distressing.

Such a versatile piece functions effectively as a side table or bedside stand, adding historical texture and organic warmth when contrasted against clean, contemporary lines.

Maintain antique elm by placing it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish the grain.
