FAQs

Treen refers to small, functional wooden objects made before the widespread use of plastics, often hand-carved and collected for their craftsmanship and historical domestic use.

They were typically fashioned from dense hardwoods such as boxwood, walnut, fruitwood, or lignum vitae, chosen for their durability and capacity to hold fine carved detail.

Authenticity is determined by evaluating the hand-carved tool marks, natural patina, wear patterns appropriate for age, and the presence of period strike surfaces such as ribbed ceramic, slate, or sandpaper.

These pieces function well as curated shelf objects, adding texture and historical narrative when grouped alongside books or modern minimalist ceramics.

Preservation involves dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and occasionally applying neutral beeswax to nourish the wood, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners and direct sunlight.
