An original City of York notice, dated 29th February 1864, appointing the named recipient as a Special Constable under the Municipal Corporations Act. The document requires the bearer to appear before the Justices of the Peace at York Guildhall to take the Oath of Service. A scarce survival of Victorian policing and civic administration, linked to Chief Constable Samuel Haley.

Condition Report:

In good overall condition for age. Central fold with small split and minor handling wear, but text remains strong and legible. Blue paper well preserved, with watermark visible when held to the light. Please see photographs for further detail.
