Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the early to mid-20th century, aircraft propellers were commonly constructed from timber laminations to provide high strength and flexibility under rotational stress. Aircraft such as the De Havilland Tiger Moth relied on fixed-pitch wooden airscrews before metal propellers became standard across aviation.

Early propellers were built using laminated layers of dense hardwoods, such as mahogany, walnut, or birch, bound with specialized adhesives. Metal brass edgings and fabric coverings were often applied to protect the leading edges against debris and moisture impact.

Authentic pieces feature visible glued timber laminations, central mounting bolt holes, and stamped identifying numbers around the central hub. Markings typically indicate the drawing number, pitch, engine type, and manufacturer inspection stamps.

A wooden propeller can be mounted horizontally above a sideboard or fireplace mantle to serve as a dramatic focal point. It can also be placed vertically in a dedicated office, study, or hallway space to enhance a classic or industrial design aesthetic.

Keep timber propellers away from direct heat sources and humid environments to prevent warping or joint separation. Regular dusting with a soft, dry microfiber cloth and periodic applications of microcrystalline wax will protect the finish and wood layers.
