Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the Regency era.
Within the solid mahogany fitted case, lined with green baize, can be found the additional equipment and tools including: steel ball mould; copper and brass powder flask; a further brass-tipped cleaning rod and a few lead balls. The figured mahogany case: 13.5 x 7.5ins (34.5 x 19cms) circa 1825-1840.
Some limited provenance indicates that this was sold by Charles Playfair, Gunmakers of Aberdeen, and a calling card is present for Captain C. G. Buchanan of the Devon Constabulary.
