Cased Pair of Scottish Percussion Pistols

19th century
Description

An attractive and very good quality PAIR OF CASED PISTOLS, signed: Thomson, Edinburgh. Both percussion pistols feature octagonal damascened barrels; foliate engraved steel locks and mounts; rounded chequered solid walnut stocks and brass-tipped ramrods. Within the solid mahogany fitted case, lined with green baize, can be found the additional equipment and tools including: steel ball mould; copper and brass powder flask; a further brass-tipped cleaning rod and a few lead balls. The figured mahogany case: 13.5 x 7.5ins (34.5 x 19cms) circa 1825-1840.

** Some limited provenance indicates that this was sold by Charles Playfair, Gunmakers of Aberdeen, and a calling card is present for Captain C. G. Buchanan of the Devon Constabulary.
