Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain refers to Japanese ceramics produced in the Arita area and exported from the port of Imari beginning in the 17th century. The style gained widespread recognition across Europe, defined by its distinctive colour palette of underglaze cobalt blue combined with overglaze iron red and gilt decoration.

These chargers were crafted from fine kaolin clay porcelain and fired at high temperatures with underglaze cobalt blue designs. Overglaze enamel decoration in iron red, green, and gold gilding was subsequently applied and fired at lower temperatures in secondary kiln passes.

Authentic pieces feature visible hand-painted variations in enamel application, slight asymmetry in complex geometric patterns, and unglazed foot rims showing natural surface wear. Genuine period gilding often exhibits light rubbing or subtle oxidisation.

Imari chargers can be displayed upright on plate stands atop wooden sideboards or mounted securely as wall features in dining areas. The rich contrast of iron red and dark blue pairs effectively with neutral backdrops, dark timber, or modern minimalist cabinetry.

Dust gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or clean with a damp cloth and mild soap, avoiding chemical solvents or abrasive pads. Never submerge pieces with overglaze gilding in dishwashers or hot water, as excess moisture and heat can degrade delicate painted layers.
