A COLLECTION OF 1O FABRIC PRINTING BLOCKS LIBERTY OF LONDON CIRCA 1900.

WE ARE PLEASED TO OFFER THIS SET OF 10 HAND CARVED PRINTING BLOCKS, ATTRIBUTED TO LIBERTY'S OF LONDON.

FOUNDED IN 1875. LIBERTY'S WAS WELL KNOWN FOR IT'S INTRICATE PATTERNS AND WAS AT THE FOREFRONT OF HIGH QUALITY CRAFTSMANSHIP AND CUTTING EDGE TRENDS.  STARTING WITH WOODEN PRINTING BLOCKS, THE TECHNIQUE OF USING BRASS AND STEEL METAL PINS WAS INTRODUCED IN THE LATE VICTORIAN TIMES, AND WE CAN ONLY IMAGINE THE LABOUR HOURS AND COST OF PRODUCING EACH OF THESE BLOCKS.  LIBERTY'S WAS AT IT'S PEAK DURING THE ARTS AND CRAFTS/ART NOUVEAU MOVEMENTS, WHERE STRONG LINKS TO FLORALS AND ORGANIC DESIGNS WERE IN FASHION.  LIBERTY OF LONDON CONTINUED TO TRADE IN THE UK UNTIL THE 1970's, BEFORE PRODUCTION MOVED OVERSEAS.
