Description

Dating from the second half of the 19th Century, this BOXWOOD AND EBONY JAQUES STAUNTON WEIGHTED CHESS SET comes in a MAHOGANY BOX with a paper label inside.

The WHITE KING is stamped JAQUES LONDON. Both Black and White Castles and Black and White Knights are stamped with a Red Crown. All pieces are baized.

The Pieces are in unrestored condition. The BOX has been fitted with a new base at some time during its life.

The overall condition of the pieces is good. The White King has a chip to the cross. One White Castle has a tiny chip to the crenellation. One White Bishop has a small chip to the top.

The Black King is missing the cross on the top. There is a small chip to the Crown of the Black Queen and a crack to the base. The Black Bishop is missing the ball to the top and there is a crack to the base. There is a tiny chip to the back of one ear of a Black Knight. One Black Pawn has a chip to the collar and a crack to the base. Another Black Pawn has a crack to the base.

The Board is not included.
