FAQs

Victorian furniture encompasses styles produced during the reign of Queen Victoria, generally characterised by a revival of historicism, including Gothic, Elizabethan, and Rococo influences, alongside high levels of craftsmanship.

Cabinet makers of the Victorian era frequently utilised dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and rosewood, often applying highly figured veneers like burr walnut to visible surfaces for decorative effect.

Authenticity is typically verified by inspecting construction methods, such as hand-cut dovetails, traditional joinery, timber shrinkage patterns, and the presence of period-appropriate hardware and secondary woods.

Pairing a richly grained period table with modern minimalist upholstery creates a balanced aesthetic that highlights the historical texture and warmth of the wood.

Maintain antique wooden surfaces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, avoiding silicone-based polishes, and periodically applying traditional beeswax to nourish the timber.
