Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Chinese Qing dynasty ceramic incense burner takes a spherical form made from porcelain with an enamel finish in vibrant blue, rich brown, and bright orange glazes, detailed with gilt highlights. The lid depicts a high-relief dragon-fish with a prominent head, long whiskers, flowing mane, and scaled body emerging from sculpted blue swirling waves and clouds, alongside several circular pierced ventilation holes scattered across the surface. The base measures 10.7 cm in diameter and bears an apocryphal Qianlong seal mark. Suitable for display on a bookshelf, altar, or desk in a study or library, it functions as a decorative collector's centrepiece or an incense censer for meditation spaces.

FAQs

Dragons have represented imperial power, water control, and good fortune in Chinese decorative arts for centuries. On incense burners, dragon motifs often signify spiritual elevation, with the rising smoke symbolizing prayers ascending to the heavens.

Qing Dynasty censers were formed using refined high-firing clay, often sculpted with high-relief detailing and precise ventilation piercings. Artisans applied overglaze polychrome enamels and gilding before subjecting the piece to multiple kiln firings.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the precise execution of reign marks, foot rim wear patterns, glaze composition, and evidence of hand-carved relief work versus modern casting techniques.

Display the censer as a focal piece on a modern dark wood console table, a bookcase shelf, or alongside neutral minimalist ceramics to emphasize its intricate relief work and vibrant enamels.

Dust gently using a soft, clean brush or microfiber cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, chemicals, or soaking in water, as moisture can degrade delicate overglaze enamels and gilded highlights over time.
