Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This George II mahogany side table dates from the Georgian period and follows an English country house design style. Constructed from warm brown timber with a dark finish and a visible grain, it stands at 68.5 cm high, 76.8 cm wide, and 50.8 cm deep, providing a compact footprint. The table comprises a rectangular, single-piece top with a moulded edge above a single frieze drawer, a shaped apron along the lower edge, and four cabriole legs terminating in pad feet. The drawer is fitted with two brass pull handles mounted on shaped brass backplates. Suitable for placement beside the front door as an entryway surface or in a hallway, the table offers a practical surface for everyday use. The timber exhibits a rich patination with natural colour variation across the top and legs, highlighting the untouched condition of the piece. The substantial overhang of the top frames the drawer section above the curves of the cabriole legs, while the slender pad feet lift the entire structure off the ground.

FAQs

Furniture produced during the reign of George II (17271760) is defined by the transition towards dark mahogany timber, cabriole legs, pad or claw-and-ball feet, and balanced proportions suitable for domestic interiors.

These tables were primarily constructed from dense West Indian mahogany, featuring oak or pine drawer linings and hand-cast brass handles or escutcheons.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-sawn timber marks underneath, natural patination, and original brass hardware showing mild oxidisation.

An 18th-century side table functions as a hallway console, bedside table, or living room accent table paired with modern artwork and minimalist ceramics.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply natural beeswax annually along the grain, keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent warping.
