Miles Griffiths Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the Regency era.
A very good quality, early 19th century antique knurl and spell antique game.
There is a steel spring with a working tension adjuster and also a steel trigger. This is a fabulous, full working example. This game originated from the moors of Yorkshire and was very popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. The Knurr is a small white pottery ball, that is placed upon the spring, ready to be triggered up into the air, and then to be struck with the spell which is a stick of wood. Still totally functional. Dates to around 1820.
