The George II period spans from 1727 to 1760 and is characterised by a transition from heavy walnut designs to the introduction of richly grained mahogany, featuring curved cabriole legs, pad feet, and understated classical ornamentation.

These tables were typically constructed from solid dense hardwoods like Cuban or Honduran mahogany, utilising traditional joinery such as pegged mortise and tenon joints, hand-turned hinges, and swing-leg mechanisms to support the drop leaves.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural timber shrinkage, hand-cut dovetails or peg construction where applicable, distinct tool marks from hand planes, and a deep patina developed through centuries of oxidisation and wax polishing.

The rich timber tone and versatile drop-leaf design allow the table to function as an occasional surface or a compact dining solution, pairing effectively with both minimalist modern seating and eclectic vintage decor.

Maintain the finish by keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish the wood without building up synthetic residues.
