FAQs

A Late Regency library table, originating from around 1820 to 1830, is characterised by classical proportions, rich timber veneers such as rosewood or mahogany, and intricate decorative detailing including marquetry or brass inlay. Designed for reading, writing, and study, these substantial tables typically feature trestle supports or pedestal bases with scroll feet.

Furniture from the 1830s frequently utilised exotic hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, and zebrawood laid over solid oak or pine carcasses. Decorative elements often incorporated intricate floral marquetry, brass inlay, and hand-carved end supports.

Authentic Regency rosewood pieces show distinct grain patterns with rich dark streaks, hand-cut dovetail joints on any drawers, and natural patination on untamed surfaces. The presence of hand-cut veneers and period-correct construction techniques under the top framework further confirms authenticity.

A Regency library table functions exceptionally well as a hallway console, sofa table, or executive home office desk. Pair it with contemporary artwork or minimal lighting to create a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

To preserve rosewood and marquetry, position the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer cracking or bleaching. Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year.
