Description

A beautiful and impressive antique French marble top coffee table. This was made in France, it dates from around the 1930’s.

The quality is superb, the frame is made from solid birch and walnut. There are very high quality gilt metal ormolu mounts and gorgeous hand painted Limoges plaques. The circular marble top has wonderful patterns and sits loose on the base.

We have had the table frame recently re-polished, the condition is excellent with just some extremely minor wear remaining beneath the polish here and there.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

French tables featuring inset marble slabs and gilt-bronze mounts gained prominence during the neoclassical and Louis XVI periods, prized for their refined symmetry, classical motifs, and integration of durable stone surfaces for salon use.

Authentic pieces typically utilise solid hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut for the structural frame, embellished with cast brass or ormolu mounts, marquetry inlay, and a heavy, polished natural marble top fitted securely into the frieze.

Authentication involves examining the joinery methods, the quality and hand-chiselling of the metal mounts, natural ageing and mineral veining within the marble, and historical tool marks consistent with period craftsmanship rather than modern mass production.

Pairing classical furniture with modern seating creates a curated aesthetic; keep surface styling minimal with a single ceramic tray or art book to allow the natural stone grain and metal detailing to serve as the focal point.

Clean the marble surface using a soft cloth dampened with warm water and a neutral, pH-balanced soap, avoiding acidic substances like lemon or vinegar, and dust the wooden frame regularly with a dry cloth.
