The George III period, spanning from 1760 to 1820, is characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and the predominant use of imported mahogany, transitioning from heavy baroque forms to lighter neoclassical designs inspired by architects like Robert Adam.

These tables were typically constructed from solid and veneered mahogany, featuring mortise and tenon joints, hand-turned pedestals, and clever brass tilt-top mechanisms designed to save space when not in use.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, traditional patination with wax accumulation in the grain, original brass castors, and period mechanisms without modern screws or machine markings.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying microcrystalline wax periodically, and cleaning surfaces with a dry or barely damp lint-free cloth.

An antique pedestal table provides a striking focal point in a modern dining space or foyer, offering textural contrast when paired with contemporary minimalist seating or used as a functional centre table.
