Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian sanitaryware piece is an earthenware toilet bowl with a glazed ceramic finish and a hardwood seat. The bowl rests on a pedestal base and displays a blue and white transferware floral pattern across its surface, while the dark wood seat is fitted on top with visible metal hinges. Measuring 41.6 cm high and 34.5 cm wide, the piece demonstrates traditional domestic plumbing design from the period. In a contemporary home, this item can serve as a decorative display object or curiosity in a hallway, eclectic bathroom, or study. The ceramic glaze reflects light off the surface, and the wood grain shows subtle variation in tone. The combination of glazed earthenware and turned wooden components offers a distinct period aesthetic suitable for vintage interiors.

FAQs

Victorian sanitaryware often featured decorative transferware patterns printed on glazed ceramic, reflecting late nineteenth-century industrial manufacturing advances and decorative aesthetic trends.

These items were predominantly constructed from heavy vitreous china or glazed earthenware, often fitted with polished hardwood seats made of mahogany, oak, or pine.

Authentic examples typically display maker marks or registry stamps under the glaze, alongside underglaze blue, brown, or green transferware floral and foliage motifs.

An antique ceramic toilet pan can be repurposed in a traditional cloakroom setting or integrated as a decorative feature planter in a conservatory or courtyard space.

Glazed ceramic surfaces should be cleaned using mild, non-abrasive detergents to avoid scratching the protective glaze, while wooden seats require periodic oiling or polishing.
