Gilt and Gesso has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The birdcage mechanism allows a fully rotational, 360 degree top.
A well constructed late 18th century, circa 1780-1790, round tilt top tea or wine, candle, perhaps breakfast table in original condition, without loss or significant repair that sits and locks well into position and upright when not locked down, a very charming example. Please note the column has been reduced in height by apx 7cm which allows a better height for a side table to a sofa whilst still adequately high to sit at with legs under as a tea table etc..
The original single plank top shows an established timeworn patina without any warps, there is evidence of some where which authenticates and adds to the character.. The tilt and locking mechanism works perfectly as does the fully rotational mechanism, standing upon a turned pedestal column, terminating at a tripod base arrangement on pad feet.
The underside reveals a stamped number, 1789 which is most likely an inventory serial number rather than a date.
A very elegant and useable antique, both function and form that can compliment a classic or contemporary space, super colour that only time can produce.
