Description

A Large 18th Century French Walnut Farmhouse Table.

The table is of pegged construction and consists of three planks of walnut for the top, of exceptional colour, with rounded corners and cleated ends, which overhangs the base. All of the timber used is of good quality but the three planks for the top are extremely well figured, consisting of two lovely pieces of bookmatched timbers on the edge of the table top, with a nicely chosen centre plank, making this one of the nicest tables we have seen for a long time.

Fabulous colour, being wonderfully aged, and with charming wear.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

French farmhouse tables originated in rural provinces, characterised by sturdy construction, generous proportions, and practical designs intended for communal family dining.

Cabinet makers typically utilised locally sourced hardwoods such as walnut, oak, and chestnut, relying on traditional joinery methods like mortise and tenon.

Authenticity is determined by examining hand-cut joints, timber oxidation, tool marks, and natural wear patterns consistent with age rather than artificial distress.

Pairing a rustic wooden table with modern minimalist chairs creates a striking visual contrast that anchors an open-plan dining space.

Maintain antique timber by avoiding direct sunlight, keeping ambient humidity stable, and regularly applying natural beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
