Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Finger plates, or push plates, emerged during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to protect painted or polished wooden doors from dirt and wear. During the Art Deco movement of the 1920s and 1930s, these functional fittings embraced bold geometric patterns, stepped borders, and streamlined motifs.

Period finger plates were commonly manufactured from solid cast or stamped brass, bronze, cast iron, ceramic, and pressed glass. Brass was particularly favoured for its durability and ability to take crisp geometric mouldings.

Authentic Art Deco pieces feature characteristic geometric decoration such as reeding, sunbursts, or concentric circles rather than floral rococo flourishes. Original items display natural surface patination, distinct manufacturing weight, and period-correct countersunk screw holes.

Vintage finger plates can be fitted to contemporary or restored interior doors to introduce tactile history and structural interest. They work effectively when paired with minimalist brass handles or painted timber doors to create visual contrast.

Maintain antique brass by dusting with a soft cloth and washing occasionally with mild soapy water. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or overly abrasive polishes if you wish to preserve the aged patina accrued over time.
