First Period Worcester porcelain refers to items manufactured at the Worcester factory from its founding in 1751 until roughly 1783, known for pioneering soft-paste porcelain production in England under founders like Dr John Wall.

These pieces typically utilise a soft-paste porcelain body composed of clay, glass frits, and soapstone, hand-painted underglaze in cobalt blue and fired in coal-burning kilns.

Authenticity is assessed by examining underglaze blue characteristics, glaze pooling, crescent or workmens marks on the base, and the presence of fine manufacturing flaws typical of 18th-century firing methods.

Antique porcelain plates can be displayed as wall art using specialist plate hangers, mounted within shadow boxes, or curated inside glass-fronted cabinets to add historical texture to modern rooms.

Items should be washed exclusively by hand in lukewarm water with mild soap, avoiding dishwashers, harsh chemicals, or abrasive sponges, and kept away from direct sunlight to protect the glaze.
