Ww1 Military Signalling Telescope by Dollond

1900 - 1920
Description

A good example of a WWI period signalling telescope on a military folding tripod. The telescope itself is made of lacquered brass and the main tube is clad in brown leather. It is a three draw telescope with an extending sunshade and the eyepiece tube is engraved with the maker's name "Dollond London. Signalling Telescope. No.10107". It comes with an additional lens in its own leather case marked "LOW" and the other lens is marked "HIGH". The telescope comes with its original protective leather end caps with buckle to keep them together.

The telescope comes with a folding tripod with adjustable mount, tightened by a wing nut. The telescope mount is engraved "Houghton Butcher MFG Co Ltd. 1917" and it also has the military crows foot.

Fully extended the telescope measures 31" (79cm) and the front lens is approximately 2 1/2" (6.5cm) wide. On the tripod it stands approximately 11 1/2" (29cm) high.

The telescope is in excellent original condition. It has been lightly cleaned and displays beautifully. The tubes are in good order with a couple of small dinks but nothing major and a smooth but firm draw action. The optics through the telescope are good and the lenses are undamaged and generally clean. The leather cases are all in good condition with a nice aged patina. There is some wear on the straps but no breaks or damages.

The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
