A Pembroke table is a type of small, drop-leaf table with hinged flaps on either side, which first appeared in the mid-18th century during the Georgian period, often attributed to the 9th Earl of Pembroke.

These tables are traditionally constructed from fine hardwoods such as mahogany, satinwood, or walnut, frequently featuring delicate veneer work, stringing, drop-leaf hinges, and a single drawer.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage consistent with age, period brass hardware, and hand-applied finishes rather than modern synthetic lacquers.

It functions effectively as a versatile side table or compact writing desk in a living room, study, or hallway, where its folded leaves allow it to fit into smaller architectural spaces.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent timber fading, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the polished wooden surface.
