Description

A beautiful and quite unusual antique French circular dining table in rosewood. This dates from around the 1850-1870 period.

It is of outstanding quality and has a beautiful design. It sits on three beautifully carved solid rosewood legs, meaning that it can seat six people, as long as the chairs are relatively slim at the front. The rosewood grain patterns and colour tones are gorgeous throughout.

We have recently had this re-polished, the condition is excellent for its age. There are just various very small marks here and there remaining beneath the polish, commensurate for age.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

French antique furniture is characterised by refined craftsmanship, curvilinear forms, and detailed wood carvings, often reflecting specific periods such as Louis Philippe or Napoleon III eras.

These pieces typically utilized dense tropical hardwoods like Brazilian rosewood for the primary surfaces and veneers, supported by secondary structural timbers such as oak or pine.

Authenticity is determined by examining traditional joinery methods, natural patina, grain patterns, hand-cut screws, and signs of historical wear consistent with age.

Pairing this historic piece with contemporary seating or placing it in a minimalist room creates a striking contrast that highlights its rich wood grain and traditional craftsmanship.

Maintain the finish by avoiding direct sunlight, keeping humidity levels stable, dusting with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying appropriate natural wax polish.
