FAQs

Staffordshire figures were produced by numerous potteries in the Staffordshire region of England, primarily during the 19th century, as affordable decorative ornaments for middle-class homes.

These figures are typically crafted from earthenware or pottery, slip-cast or hand-pressed in moulds, and hand-painted with underglaze colours and enamels before being fired.

Authentic pieces often exhibit fine crazing in the glaze, hollow construction with a small ventilation hole underneath, hand-painted details with minor imperfections, and typical wear consistent with age.

They can be displayed on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or sideboard to introduce historical character, texture, and a touch of traditional British eccentricity to a room.

Keep them out of direct sunlight to prevent colour fading, dust gently with a soft dry brush, and avoid using water or chemical cleaners on items with overglaze enamels.
