Regency furniture, dating from the early 19th century, is characterised by classical proportions, inspired by ancient Greek and Roman designs, often featuring clean lines, dark woods, and subtle brass ornamentation.

Master craftsmen typically employed dense hardwoods such as mahogany and oak, often accented with brass drawer pulls, ring handles, and sometimes leather writing inserts.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawer construction, natural timber shrinkage, oxidisation appropriate to age, and traditional joinery methods without modern metal fasteners.

Such pieces serve as functional statement items in a study or living area, pairing well with minimalist contemporary seating to create a striking contrast between old and new.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the wood.
