Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Victorian dining tables span the reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901) and are characterised by robust craftsmanship, heavy use of dense timbers like rosewood and mahogany, and often feature substantial pedestals with carved scrollwork or claw feet.

These tables were typically constructed from solid hardwoods or feature rich wood veneers applied to secondary timbers. Joinery involved traditional mortise and tenon methods, heavy central pillars, and multi-legged platform bases designed to support significant weight.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate joinery, natural ageing such as surface oxidisation and minor shrinkage cracks in veneers, hand-carved detailing, and the characteristic weight and dense grain structure of period timbers like Brazilian rosewood.

Pairing a dark wood antique centre table with contemporary seating creates a striking juxtaposition. A round silhouette softens architectural lines in modern dining spaces and functions effectively as a focal point beneath a statement modern pendant light.

Maintain antique rosewood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer splitting. Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth and apply a traditional beeswax polish sparingly to nourish the grain without building up residue.
