FAQs

A Sutherland table is a narrow drop-leaf table style introduced during the Victorian era, designed to fold down to a compact footprint when not in use.

They were typically constructed using solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, featuring hinged drop leaves supported by swing-out gate legs and often mounted on castors.

Authentic pieces exhibit period construction techniques such as hand-cut joints, traditional timber shrinkage, genuine patina on the mahogany surface, and original brass or ceramic castors.

The narrow profile makes it ideal for placement against a wall as a console or side table, which can be easily expanded when additional surface area is required.

Preserve the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying a traditional beeswax polish to nourish the wood.
