FAQs

A fold over tea table is a dual-purpose piece of furniture from the 18th and 19th centuries designed with a hinged top that doubles in surface area when opened, historically used for serving tea or playing card games.

These tables are traditionally constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or oak, often featuring finely grained veneered tops and brass castors.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional timber shrinkage, period-appropriate hardware like brass castors, and patination consistent with age and use.

An antique tea table functions effectively as a console against a wall or as an occasional surface in a living space, paired with modern seating to create a balanced mix of eras.

Maintenance involves dusting with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and occasionally applying appropriate wax polish to nourish the timber.
